Senior Recreation Leader – Preschool Aide
The City of Cupertino Recreation and Community Services Department has an opening for a Senior Recreation Leader – Preschool Aide in its Preschool Program.
POSITION: Senior Recreation Leader (Part-Time Temporary Non-Benefited Position)
HOURS PER WEEK: Tuesdays and Thursdays: 11:45 am - 2:15 pm; Wednesdays: 8:45 am - 2:15 pm. Extra subbing hours may be available. Approximately 5-10 hours per week (maximum 995 hours per fiscal year)
SALARY RANGE: $14 to $16 per hour, effective January 1, 2
DEFINITION: Under general supervision, the preschool aide helps teachers prepare for preschool program activities, supervises students, and performs other duties as required.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Preschool aides are responsible for assisting teachers with preparing for activities, cleaning up after activities; interacting with participants one-on-one and in small groups through crafts, storytelling, circle time, and free play; and supervising participants while maintaining a safe environment. This job requires that you be able to lift at least 30 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS: College-level courses in environmental education, child development, and/or recreation are desirable. The Senior Recreation Leader must have a working knowledge of safety precautions, the ability to supervise staff and maintain discipline with program participants, and experience preparing clear and accurate reports. The Senior Recreation Leader must be able to manage time effectively, show work initiative, and work independently. Other requirements include:
* Must have a high school diploma/GED
* Must have a valid California Driver's License
* Must be CPR and First Aid certified
* Must have 500 HOURS of related work experience, such as: facilitating recreation/educational classes, recreational camp experience for youth/teens, experience in a daycare setting, or environmental/educational classes
* Must be able to provide own transportation to and from work
