State of California's California’s Senate Bill 1 Increases Cupertino’s Funding for Pavement Maintenance

Post Date:06/07/2018 3:07 pm
The City of Cupertino’s paving season is scheduled to begin next week. The City Council has approved a $3.07 million contract to resurface local streets with a portion of the funding coming through the State of California’s Senate Bill 1 (SB1).

The resurfacing project will upgrade approximately 8.5 miles of residential roads within the Cupertino. A future contract to seal 4.5 miles of local roads is expected to be awarded this summer. In total, more than 12 percent of the City’s residential roads will be treated this season.

Concrete improvements, including removal and replacement of existing sidewalks and installation of ADA-accessible curb ramps at street corners, have already been completed. Bike lane improvements will also be completed at select locations as part of the resurfacing project.

Upon completion, these projects will create a safer environment for bicyclists and pedestrians in addition to providing a smoother ride for motorists.
