Avoid falling for scams and “social engineering” attacks
Most common scheme is called “phishing” and it attempts to entice you to give your information away by appearing to be a legitimate organization you trust
Safety using Wireless Networks
At Home
- Use WPA or WPA on your wireless access point at home. WEP is now easily broken but may keep casual users off your network.
On the Road
- Most common web mail services encrypt the password but not your mail.
- Don’t view sensitive information unless you know the session is encrypted.
- Make sure you don’t have unrestricted file sharing enabled.
- Use AeONsafe hotspots that encrypted wi-fi traffic.
Protecting your computer
PC Firewalls
- Windows XP with SP2 and new versions of Windows have a firewall built-in and on by default.
- Apple and Linux based computers also come with firewalls.
