MAYOR DOLORES (DOLLY) SANDOVAL

Dolly was elected to the Cupertino City Council in November 2001 and re-elected in 2005. She was elected by the Council as Mayor in December 2007. Prior to her election to the city council, she served for 10 years on the Foothill-DeAnza College Board starting in 1991.
Dolly is the West Valley representative to the Valley Transportation Authority Board of Directors, and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board. She is the Chair of the West Valley Mayors and Managers group.
Currently, Dolly serves on the Board of Director’s for two local nonprofits, The Role Model Program and West Valley Community Services. Throughout her career, Dolly has been active in the community on a range of issues, including lobbying state and federal legislators on environmental and education matters, including higher education funding issues. For many years, she has also volunteered in local, state and national campaigns and a variety of community, environmental, ethnic and women’s organizations.
In the summer of 2008, Dolly was chosen to join 74 in an executive education program at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, focusing on state and local government. Enrique Morales, Consul of Community Affairs, nominated Dolly to join a three day summit in Mexico City at IME. She joined 34 others to discuss topics of importance to Mexico and the United States.
Dolly was born in Palo Alto in 1961, and has lived in the area ever since. She attended Cupertino schools as a child, then Fremont High School in Sunnyvale. After graduating from DeAnza with an A.A. in Business Administration, Dolly earned a B.A. in Mathematics and teaching credential from the University of California, Santa Cruz. In August 2008, she started her twentieth year teaching, currently at Los Gatos High School.
When she’s not busy with teaching, community work or elected duties, she leads groups on whitewater rafting trips as a volunteer guide with Friends of the River. Dolly lives in Cupertino with her husband Ed Hoffman, who is a sales executive for a Silicon Valley technology company.
