    FORMER VICE MAYOR
PATRICK KWOK P. E.

Vice Mayor Partick Kwok Resigns from City Council

Patrick Kwok Service and Retirement Information
  • Kwok elected November 2001 and again 2005.
  • Kwok served as Mayor in 2005 and Vice Mayor in 2007.
  • Kwok’s term ends November 2009. There are approximately 2 years and 106 days left.
  • Council members can serve a maximum (appointed and elected combined) 2 years and 354 days. So, someone appointed to fill the unexpired term could still serve two full elected terms.
  • If vacancy filled by appointment, it must be done by September 6.
  • If vacancy filled by election, it will be held on February 5 (the presidential primary). It is too late for the November election cutoff.
  • The nomination period would be October 15 through November 9.
  • Election cost roughly estimated at $50,000; that could go higher because of Secretary of State’s decision about electronic voting machines (resulting in increased paper costs).
  • If vacancy filled by election, Council can appoint someone for the interim period.
  • Council will discuss options at meeting of August 21.
