ZONING DISTRICT TYPES
SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENTIAL R1 ZONING DISTRICT
The R1 zone consist of detached dwelling units mainly on the valley floor. There are various subcategories among the basic R1 zoning. These are discussed within the zoning ordinance for the R1 district.

RESIDENTIAL HILLSIDE RHS ZONING DISTRICT
The RHS Ordinance regulates single family residential development in the hillside zones in a manner that preserves the natural setting of the hillsides.

RESIDENTIAL DUPLEX - R2 ZONING DISTRICT
The residential duplex zoning district is intended to allow a second
dwelling unit under the same ownership as the initial dwelling unit on
appropriate sites in areas designated for multiple family use by the
Cupertino General Plan.

MULTIFAMILY RESIDENDIAL - R3 ZONING DISTRICT
The zoning regulates multiple-family residential development.

RESIDENTIAL SINGLE FAMILY CLUSTER - RIC ZONING DISTRICT
The zoning regulates single-family cluster development.

FENCES, SHEDS, POOLS AND PROTECTED TREES INFO
Fence Regulations and Forms
Fences are allowed between neighboring properties per the Fence Ordinance regulations. A 6 foot fence is typically allowed at the property line per the regulation in the ordinance.

An 8 feet tall fence is allowed with the permission of your neighbor and a building permit. Use the Fence approval form listed below.

If you want to build a fence not in accordance with the fence ordinance regulations, you may apply for the fence exception. The fence exception may be granted following a public hearing if your application meets the findings required for such an exception. Use the R1 Exception Form to apply.
