The Cupertino Community Notification System (CCNS) utilizes the services of 3n (National Notification Network). This system allows the City to rapidly notify residents and businesses by telephone, e-mail, Short Message Service (SMS), Instant Messaging (IM), and fax in the event of an emergency.
Should an emergency occur, city personnel could notify residents in a matter of minutes. CCNS can call all telephone numbers and e-mail addresses listed within the system. If phone lines are busy, the system will redial those numbers a predetermined number of times to make contact. If an answering machine picks up the call, the emergency message will be left on the machine. If the telephone just rings without an answer, after the predetermined number of attempts, CCNS will use the next contact path that may be another number, e-mail or SMS address.
In addition to the CCNS notifications, the City Channel, Ch. 26 on Comcast Cable or Ch. 99 on AT&T, Cupertino Radio AM 1670 and the City of Cupertino website, will have information regarding the situation.
Benefits of Signing Up With the Cupertino Community Notification System
CCNS allows rapid notification of situations that may affect you or your home. You do not have to purchase any new equipment, and you will only be notified of urgent situations that affect the area in which your home is located.
Opt-In or Out
Opt-in or opt-out is the process of subscribing to or unsubscribing from information that is sent to residents through electronic means. When you opt-in for notification alerts, you are allowing the system to send urgent notifications to your listed contact information (e-mail addresses, home, work and cell numbers, fax, SMS or instant messenger account).
When you opt-in, you are required to provide your name, address, city, state, zip code and at least one contact number or address. Your address is used to determine your geographic location within the city. If your location is within the specified area, CCNS will contact you through the contact information you listed with that street address.
Opt-out is the process of unsubscribing from the alert notification system which will result in no notifications from the system.
