The City of Cupertino contracts with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office for police services. This city offers Neighborhood Watch and the Email Community Alert Program (eCAP) program.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that enlists the active participation of citizens in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in their communities. It involves: neighbors getting to know each other and working together in a program of mutual assistance; citizens being trained to recognize and report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods; and implementation of crime prevention techniques such as home security, operation Identification, etc.

eCAP
Email Community Alert Program (eCAP)
The eCAP (Email Community Alert Program) was created by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office to prevent and reduce crime by raising community awareness, minimizing opportunities for crime and increasing the possibility of solving crimes with the public's help.
Cupertino residents may voluntarily register their e-mail addresses with the Sheriff's Office for community alert messages. Citizens can sign-up at a Neighborhood Watch meeting, or log-on to the City of Cupertino's eCap on line registration.
Group e-mails are divided into predetermined beat areas. If the Sheriff's Office recognizes crime series, patterns or trends, information will be e-mailed to participants within selected beat areas in Cupertino.
Community alert messages will indicate the type of crime; the block number and street name; day, date, and time elements; as well as a brief description of the method used by the suspect(s). It may also include a request for assistance in identifying suspicious persons or vehicles that may be associated with the crime.
All personal information obtained from program participants is kept confidential. It will not be used for political or personal use.
