Garbage & Recycling
How do I contact my garbage company?
Cupertino is serviced by the Los Altos Garbage Company at 408.725.4020
Is garbage service mandatory?
Yes. Legislation became effective in 1990 (AB939) which requires that all communities reduce their waste stream to landfills by 25% by 1995, and by 50% by the year 2000. This necessitated the introduction of many new recycling programs to the community, and the cost was much greater than simply removing garbage. If recycling programs were provided on a pay-per-service basis we would be unable to attain the AB939 goal. It is only through community investment of a mandatory fee that the program can be successful and benefit the community. Without recycling, the cost of garbage removal in the future would be much higher because it would be necessary to purchase additional land for a landfill.
Can I get a debris box from any company?
No, the Los Altos Garbage Company holds a franchise with the City of Cupertino.
