Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)Introduction to CERT When disaster strikes, you may not be home. Who will check on your family? Who will check for gas leaks? Who will take care of your pets? Your neighbors of course!!! Many neighborhoods in Cupertino have organized for earthquake preparedness and received the added benefit of developing a safer, friendlier place to live.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is one of the most visible City Emergency Preparedness Programs, sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This 18-hour course offers traning in disaster preparation response and recovery skills.
Sessions include:
Disaster Medicine
Earthquake preparedness
Damage assessment
Search & rescue
Fire suppression
Neighborhood preparedness
Terrorism/Hazmat
Disaster Psychology
It is designed to be a fun, interactive learning experience for adults of all ages. The final session is an exercise at the Sunnyoaks Fire Drill tower in Campbell and includes an earthquake drill and fire extinguisher training. Course fee is FREE to resident, $ 35.00 for non resident.
