Under general direction, to plan, organize and supervise a substantial segment of the City-wide recreation program; and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Plans, organizes, and supervises the activities of a major unit in the Parks and Recreation Department.
Meets with groups and individuals to assess recreation needs and interests.
Evaluates present programs and facilities and coordinates activities.
Identifies recreational needs and develops programs to meet them.
Selects, trains, assigns, supervises and evaluates a staff of recreational personnel.
Sets schedules and themes for special City-wide activities in the assigned area,
assigning personnel and obtaining facilities from other agencies and professional recreational organizations.
Visits recreation facilities to assure that safety standards are followed.
Organizes and supervises a public relations and publicity program.
Assists in planning new facilities.
Prepares budget estimates.
Sets fees and maintains financial records.
Prepares reports as required.
Education and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from college in recreation, physical education or a related field and three years of increasingly responsible experience in recreation.
The techniques and philosophies of public education; of community agencies, their functions and resources.
Organize and supervise large numbers of employees.
Analyze recreational needs and develop programs to meet them.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
