What is a General Plan?

All properties and land uses in the City are governed by the City's General Plan (General Plan: Community Vision 2015-2040). The General Plan describes the long-term goals for the City’s future and guides daily decision-making. The Cupertino General Plan is a roadmap to the future that encompasses the hopes, aspirations, values and dreams of the community. The time frame of the Plan is 2015-2040. The Plan contains the City’s official policies on land use and community design, transportation, housing, environmental resources and health and safety. In addition to the policies in the General Plan, different areas of the city have specific plan regulations that are applicable to them.

Other Land Use Plans - Specific Plan, Conceptual Plan or Master Plan

The City adopts a variety of other Land Use Plans to implement the General Plan policies or vision for particular areas. The City has to that end adopted Specific Plan, Master Plans and Conceptual Plans. Your property may be subject to the requirements of a Specific Plan, Conceptual Plan or Master Plan. To get further information on whether a property is subject to a Land Use plan, please visit the Land Use Plan webpage here: Land Use Plans.
