Gary Latshaw

Gary Latshaw

Dr. Gary Latshaw received his doctorate in physics from Stanford University in 1971. Although his career primarily involved non-environmental issues, he maintained a serious interest in the environment and man-induced climate change over the years. He became personally concerned that the global society was ignoring the increasingly convincing threat of climate change and began presenting in 2003 his findings in a home-grown presentation he called “Saving the Future” to various groups. When the movie “Inconvenient Truth” came out and Al Gore formed the climate project – a project to train and equip people to present climate change issues – he applied and was accepted to the program. His presentation deals in a very broad fashion with the dangers of our dependence on fossil-fuel energy. Our current dependence on fossil fuels threatens our economy, security, ocean health, coastal regions (which will flood with increasing sea levels), and climate stability (which will no longer support the necessary food or shelter for billions of people).  There are multiple solutions to be implemented on a personal and national policy level.

Now retired Dr. Latshaw remains a member of the Climate Project and has become active in the Sierra Club, Citizen’s Climate Lobby, securethefuture2100.org, 350.org, BACE (Bay Area for Clean Environment) and others.  He now serves on Cupertino’s Sustainability Commission.
