Techie Teens (NEW)

The primary goal of Cupertino’s Techie Teens volunteer program at the Senior Center is to help teens give back to the community by engaging the 50+ community to assist in developing their technological skills. Our volunteers can expect to gain the following experiences: leadership roles, public speaking opportunities, interpersonal communication, and much more. While anyone between the ages of 14-18 may apply, we would like to remind all applicants that space is limited and acceptance into the program will be based on answers to supplemental questions, availability, and interview performance. Any teen with a strong desire to work with our 50+ population is encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will be enthusiastic, dedicated, and devoted to providing our 50+ population with an enriching experience.
Requirements & Expectations
Techie Teen Volunteers that are selected to the program will be expected to meet the following requirements:
- Must be at least 14 years old by the first day of training
- Attend all training meetings
- Be fingerprinted and cleared
- Volunteer for a minimum of 2.5-3 hours every other week for the full duration of the program (September 17, 2019 - May 9, 2020)
- Must create and present a 30 minute workshop at the end of the session in May
- Must provide own transportation to and from program sites
- Arrive on time for shifts and stay for the whole duration of scheduled shift
Youth Activity Board

The Youth Activity Board (YAB) is a leadership group which consists of 13 highly dedicated middle and high school students who plan and lead events for youth and teens in Cupertino. The Cuperitno YAB work with Recreation staff and the Cupertino Teen Commission to develop these new programs. The main goal of the YAB is to create engaging and fun activities which local youth can participate in every other month.
Membership on the board is a privilege and only the most qualified teens will be able to serve on the board.
All 6th through 12th-grade students are welcome at the Teen Center; Cupertino residents are free. The Teen Center is supervised by trained Recreation Staff who are able to provide a safe, welcoming and fun environment for everyone. The Teen Center can be used as a safe place to hang out, do homework and meet new friends. The center includes computers, Nintendo Switch, Wii U, PS4, Netflix, movies, pool table, ping-ping and so much more.
Cupertino Teen Commission
Recruitment is CLOSED for the 2019-2021 term. Recruitment for 2020-2022 will begin in spring 2020.
The Teen Commission is a group of nine students from Cupertino who are selected by the City Council members to serve the Cupertino community as the voices of the youth and teens of Cupertino. More information about meetings and upcoming application periods can be found on the City Commissions page. Consider attending a meeting, event, or apply for the Teen Commission and be the Teen voice of Cupertino!

Cupertino's Youth Activity Board together with Cupertino Recreation Department is hosting a Movie Night presenting Shrek 2. If you are in Middle School or High School join us for popcorn, snacks, and a chance to be entered in a raffle to win a prize.
<hack> Cupertino 2019
Saturday, April 13th to Sunday, April 14th at Quinlan Community Center
Cupertino's Teen Commission together with the Cupertino Recreation Department is hosting <hack> Cupertino, a 13-hour overnight hackathon designed to solve a problem presented during our Opening Ceremony. Participants must be between 13 and 18 years old (must have a 2018-2019 school ID or show proof on School Loop). Teams are maximum of 4 people. Top 3 winning teams will receive awards and be formally recognized by Cupertino's City Council at a televised meeting.
Cupertino's premier lifeguard academy will give you all the skills necessary to become a quality lifeguard and make the transition into summer job. Applications are taken up to 1 week before the start of a session. For more information, please call 408-777-3120.
