The Youth Activity Board (YAB) is a group of 11 highly dedicated middle and high school students who plan and lead events for youth and teens in Cupertino.To achieve their vision, the YAB works with Recreation staff and the Cupertino Teen Commission to develop ideas, implement youth and teen programs, and encourage youth and teen involvement in these activities. The goal of the YAB is to create engaging and fun activities which local youth can participate in every other month. These can range from large scale events to small activities.

The YAB meets on a bi-weekly schedule with meetings held every other Wednesday from 6 -7 PM.  For more information, please contact staff liaison Daniel Mestizo, 408.777.3134 or

  • The Youth Activity Board works to create intentional, unique, engaging, and fun events and activities for youth and teens in the community in Cupertino. If you could create any event for youth and teens, what would it be, and why?
  • What resource do you think is missing from school or teens' lives?
  • What do you consider to be one of your strengths and why?
  • What do you like to do for fun?
  • What are your school responsibilities (other than classwork) for the 2020-2021 school year?

Be sure to complete the supplemental questions before beginning the application and give yourself 20-30 minutes to complete the application.

To become a member of the Youth Activity Board, submit a completed application, one (1) letter of recommendation from a teacher, advisor or supervisor, record a one-minute video introducing yourself and you must be a Cupertino resident. Applications will be reviewed and interviews will be scheduled with enthusiastic and eligible candidates.

Who we are looking for:
- Teens who genuinely have an interest in planning activities.
- Teens who are good at communicating with new people.
- Teens who are good at organization and coordination.
- Teens who want to provide stress-free activities for local teens.
- Teens who aren't afraid to do work and be champions of YAB activities.
- Teens who want to develop their leadership skills.
- Teens who live in the City of Cupertino.  Going to a school in Cupertino does not qualify.
