CUPERTINO TEEN LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

The Cupertino Teen Leadership Academy (CTLA) is a new initiative designed to teach foundational leadership skills through the lens of public service careers and inform students about new or unknown careers within the public and non-profit sector.  Students in CTLA will be introduced to a variety of science, tech, and other careers within these growing fields while learning the following leadership skills:

  • Resume writing and interviewing
  • Problem Solving
  • Effective Communication
  • Customer service - both internal and external

 

Since there are limited spots within this program, an internal panel will be using the application and answers to the supplemental questions to determine the best candidates for the program.

Eligibility

Any student who is currently in 8th-11th grade can apply.  Preference will be given to Cupertino residents, but we will try to accommodate all interested students if possible.

Application Information

DUE DATE:  Applications must be submitted by May 5th at 4:00pm.  Decisions will be made the week of May 14th and applicants will hear back by May 18th on final decisions.

Academy Requirements

All participants will be expected to meet the following requirements in order to graduate from the academy:

  • Complete an informational interview with an individual in a public service field.
  • Complete 10 hours of community service.
  • Attend a City of Cupertino Commission or Council meeting and give a 1 page report.
  • Give a final group presentation.Details will be given during kickoff.
  • Attend 6 of 7 academy sessions. Leadership dinner (8/9) does NOT count as a session.
